    This course is designed for the prospective, new or inexperienced AR-15 rifle owner.  The course consists of a half day in the classroom beginning with SAFETY, learning the history, cycle of operation, function, field disassembly/assembly, nomenclature, safe loading/unloading, basic malfunction clearances, and sighting options, both iron sights and RDS and LPV’s.

    Ammunition types, ballistics and performance choices discussed in the context of mission.

    No live ammunition in the classroom, “dummy rounds” provided.

    Second half of the day will be on the range and will consist of live fire drills in the basic firing positions of standing, seated and prone.  Zeroing the rifle will be worked through; why and at what distances.

    Single rounds, multiple rounds, reduced target zones, and efficient gun handling will be demonstrated and practiced.

    Equipment needed:

    Eye and ear protection

    Ball cap

    Clothing appropriate for the weather and conditions.

    Shooting mat, if desired.

    Ar-15 style rifle or pistol.

    Two rifle magazines

    One or more magazine pouches worn on the belt.

    200 rounds of .223 or 5.56×45 ammunition.


    NOTE: Make sure your rifle is made for 5.56, which will accept both .223 and 5.56.  Do NOT use 5.56 ammo in a rifle chambered for .223 only.

    Limited number of rental rifles available and reserving one must be done in advance.  This option is for prospective AR owners who have not yet decided on a make/model.

    The “Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals Course,” (USCCA) is a comprehensive seminar for anyone considering owning or carrying a firearm for self defense. The class is a non-firing class and is approx 4.5 to 5 total hours long.
    In this seminar you will learn conflict avoidance, situational awareness; handgun, shotgun & AR-15 basics; shooting fundamentals; the physiology of violent encounters, legal aspects of using deadly force (including knowing what to do in the aftermath); and a complete guide on gear, gadgets, and ongoing training.
    Equipment required: Unloaded firearm (some rentals available), at least two magazines, rigid holster (made for your handgun), magazine pouch, belt.
    Note: This course is “non-firing,” and involves hands-on dry fire practice of Fundamentals.
    ***Students may bring own UNLOADED firearm and magazines (or speed loaders for revolvers). No live ammunition permitted.***

    Designed for the pistol owner with some experience.  Approximately 8 hours.

    ***CDT Basic Pistol or equivalent required (Contact for questions of accepted prior experience/training)***

    Subjects covered: Review SAFETY, Grip, Stance, Sight Alignment/Sight Picture, Follow Through.

    Dry Fire/Live Fire Drills designed to increase proficiency in basic marksmanship, multiple rounds, multiple targets, decision making.  Drawing from the Holster/Re-Holstering Safely.  Introduction to Drawing While Turning.  Near and Further Target Engagements (Self Defense Distances).

    Required Equipment: Eye/Ear Protection, reputable semi-auto pistol w/ at least two magazines, rigid holster, magazine pouch, ammunition suitable for the pistol (approx 500 rounds).

    Driving Directions

    This course is designed for the new pistol owner with limited or no experience. Approximately 8 hours.

    Subjects covered: SAFETY, Field stripping and disassembly/assembly of the semi-auto handgun.  Cleaning and maintenance, Action types, Firing Cycle.

    Demonstration and practice (dry-fire) of grip, stance, sight alignment, sight picture, follow through, loading and unloading.

    Second half of the day conducted live fire, with drills to ground the student in the Fundamentals of Marksmanship.

    Required Equipment: Eye/Ear Protection, Reputable semi-automatic or revolver  handgun with at least two magazines or speed loaders, suitable ammunition for that firearm (approx 300 rounds), magazine/speedloader pouch, rigid holster for that handgun. Pants and a rigid belt.  NO low cut shirts/t-shirts. No open-toe shoes.
