Intro to Defensive Handgun


This course is designed for the new woman pistol owner with limited or no experience, or owner with no formal training. Approximately 8 hours.

Subjects covered:

  • Action types
  • Cleaning and maintenance
  • Field stripping and disassembly/assembly of the semi-auto handgun
  • Firing cycle
  • SAFETY

Demonstration and practice (dry-fire) of grip, stance, sight alignment, sight picture, follow through, loading and unloading.

Other topics covered are Situational Awareness, Concealed Carry Options for Women, Legal Considerations for Use of Deadly Force to Defend Yourself or Your Family, Safe Storage of Firearms for Families and Firearms As An Equalizer.

Second half of the day conducted live fire, with drills to ground the student in the Fundamentals of Marksmanship. With a “crawl, then walk” training approach, we build your familiarity and confidence with a firearm.

Required Equipment: Eye/Ear Protection, a reputable semi-automatic or revolver handgun with at least two magazines or speed loaders, suitable ammunition for that firearm (approx 300 rounds), magazine/speedloader pouch, rigid holster for that make/model handgun. Pants and a rigid belt. NO low-cut shirts/t-shirts. No open-toe shoes.

Intro to Defensive AR-15 Rifle


This course is designed for the new or aspiring woman AR-15 rifle owner with limited or no experience, or owner with no formal training. Approximately 8 hours.

This firearm is particularly easy shooting, accurate, and an excellent home defense option when ballistic myths are debunked, and capabilities explained and experienced. There is a reason it is America’s favorite sporting rifle.

Subjects covered:

  • Follow Through
  • Grip
  • Review SAFETY
  • Sight Alignment/Sight Picture
  • Stance

The .223 caliber and 5.56x45 caliber explained, with differences identified. NOTE: If your rifle is chambered for 5.56x45, you may shoot either .223 or 5.56. If chambered for .223, do not shoot 5.56x45 as pressure and case length differences can lead to problems.

Accessories for this rifle are explained and demonstrated. How to “zero” the rifle is taught, and ballistics explained.
